Dress Code at West Shore Country Club

The West Shore Country Club has a long and proud heritage of traditions and standards. We recognize that members and their guests approach West Shore Country Club from varying backgrounds. We simply hope that members and their guests dress in a tasteful and appropriate manner, as would be expected at a country club. Please remember that your appearance not only reflects on you, but does affect those around you who are enjoying dining and other events.

Following are a few Minimum Guidelines:

  • Denim - tasteful, properly fitted dress type denim that is not faded, torn or has holes may be worn. If this is your choice of attire, well-kept denim in a dark shade is ours.

  • Men's hats may not be worn on the upper level of the Clubhouse.

  • Tee Shirts, sweat suits, sweatpants or sweatshirts, long or short cargo pants and spandex may not be worn in the Clubhouse.

  • Dress jackets must be worn in the Grandview Room.


Business Formal when indicated by Club event

Jackets and ties for gentlemen including business suits or blazer with tie and dress slacks. For women, dresses and skirts, business suits, formal pants suits, dress pants with appropriate tops. Boys under the age of sixteen should be dressed in properly fitted slacks with collared shirts. Girls should wear dresses, skirts or slacks with appropriate tops.


Black Tie Formal when indicated by event

Tuxedos or dark business suits and ties for men. For women, formal gowns, dresses or pants suits.


Relaxed Dress Code

The dress code may be relaxed in the case of special parties or events. Club-themed events, costume or otherwise, but only where announcements of such events specifically provide that dress may be other than what is defined for that area of the club. Men's hats may not be worn on the upper level of the Club House. Sweat suits, sweat pants or sweat shirts, long or short cargo pants and spandex may not be worn on the club premises at all. Members should inform their guest of proper dress code in advance.

Golf Course and Tennis Courts Dress Code

The West Shore Country Club Golf Course is among the finest in the state. We take great pride in this. This pride should be reflected in our attire when we are on the course and tennis courts. All members, including juniors, must follow the dress code on the course and practice areas. Proper tennis attire and approved footwear should be worn at all times while on the courts.


Male Dress Code:

  • All golf shirts must have a collar or mock collar. Shirts must be tucked in at all times.

  • Traditional Bermuda shorts are permitted, but they must be no shorter than mid-thigh measured while standing.

  • All hats, visors and caps must be worn with bills to the front and outdoors only with the exception of the lower level of the Clubhouse.

  • Only approved golf shoes with soft spikes are permitted.

  • Only approved tennis shoes for our courts are permitted.

  • Denim jeans, cargo pants, athletic shorts, and sweat clothes are prohibited golf or tennis attire.

  • The changing of attire must be done in the locker rooms.

Female Dress Code:

  • Golf shirts may have short sleeves, long sleeves, or may be sleeveless. Shirts without collars must have sleeves.

  • Any type of tank top or halter top is not permitted.

  • Traditional Bermuda shorts, golf skirts, and culottes must be no shorter than mid-thigh as measured while standing.

  • Neatness in dress is always a prerequisite and extremely important.

  • Denim jeans, cargo pants, athletic shorts, and sweat clothes are prohibited golf or tennis attire.

  • Only approved golf shoes with soft spikes are permitted.

  • The changing of attire must be done in the locker room.



Cellular Phone Policy

Calls anywhere on the premise should be discrete and as brief as possible.

Clubhouse

Cellular phone calls may be received only if phones are set to vibratory mode, but conversations are not permitted in the dining areas. Calls, receiving and making, are permitted in the ladies' and men's locker rooms, the phone booths, and the coatroom areas. A cellular phone may also be used in a room in use for a business meeting that is not open for use by the general membership.


Golf Course

Cellular phone use is not permitted on the golf course or golf practice areas except as follows:
• To report a violation of Club rules.
• To advise the pro shop of slow play.
• In case of an emergency.
• By use of a physician in the course of his/her professional duties.


Tennis

Cellular phone use is not permitted on the courts or within 25 feet of the courts.



Smoking Policy

The West Shore Country Club is a smoke-free facility except for the golf course, men's card room, the ladies lounge and in designated areas of the lower patio/courtyard and ballroom balcony where cigar, cigarette and pipe smoking are permitted.

Smoking is not allowed in any other area of the clubhouse, pool bathhouses, tennis courts and tennis pro shop.
